Walker's Cay, Abaco, Bahamas - 2000

In June 2000, my husband Darrell went on another fishing trip to Walker's Cay, this time with a friend and my brother-in-law. His girls, then 13 and 15, wanted to experience the Bahamas so we arranged to fly them over for a few days to see how they liked it. But before the girls arrived, there was a photo op with the guys and their catch of the day.

Then it was time for the girls to make the trip over. They boarded the Chalk's seaplane in Ft. Lauderdale and arrived safely, although there were mixed feelings about the flight. I loved it when I went in 1999 but they weren't really thrilled with it. They had a nice new plane for their trip, a cool purple one! Even so, they decided to come back to the US via the boat instead of the plane.

The girls enjoyed the fishing and the boating, although Lisa didn't wake up much before noon any of the days out. She slept through a lot of the fishing! They had heard the stories about Rosie's, a local restaurant which required a short boat ride to the neighboring island of Grand Cay. They all piled in the water taxi one night and had a good dinner plus a nice boat ride.

Too soon it was time to get back to the USA. They got up early the last day, enjoyed the sunrise, then started out across the Atlantic. The crossing was smooth and they were lucky enough to have porpoises swimming right along with them part of the time. Later that night they came through the Jupiter Inlet and stayed nearby at The Jib Yacht Club and Marina in Tequesta, Florida, then came home up the ICW the following day. When they finally got to the dock where the boat lives they were tanned and tired and agreed they'd all like to go again!
